What is this design from?

Vorkosigan is the name of a family in some of the works of Lois McMaster Bujold. The designs to the left are based on written descriptions of the family seal (a stylized maple leaf with three interlocking triangles representing the local mountains) and the family colors (brown and silver). I know that my interpretations may not match yours, or even the author's idea of what these things look like, but I hope that you'll enjoy them anyway. The last two designs are interpretations of what an older, more formal and less "modernized" version of the seal might be.

About the artwork

I did these on Paint, Adobe Photo Deluxe, and an obsolete program which I had kicking around my computer. I often find that I get better results from using several programs than from sticking to one, though moving things around can be a bother.

The last design is meant to be a background over which one may place text, et cetera.

Anyone who has hints about making the background of the last two designs look more metallic is welcome to contact me by email--the address is below.

The stylized buckwheat surrounding the last two designs may not be identifiable to people familiar with the growing plant. I had difficulty finding pictures of the cultivated buckwheat plant, and I am not familiar with the growing plant myself. Anyone who wants to sent detailed anatomical pictures of buckwheat or corrections on my pictures may feel free to do so by email; again, the address is below.

You may see a different design involving maple leaves in the "Flora" section. I am quite fond of the things, especially sugar maples
